Baby Bean!

 

 

Oh. My. God. I'm really pregnant. Here's my little bean... actually about the size of a kidney bean right now. You'll see the black empty space of the uterus with the baby floating in the middle. Head is on the left, rest of body kind of curved down, like she's on her side (no, I don't know the sex yet).

In this picture, her head (round blob on the left) looks like it has a smiley face on it, kind of on its side, looking right! I love it! :)

The doctor was pleasantly surprised by the ultrasound. She was not sure about anything because of my age. But, she said that the heartbeat is strong (HOW AMAZING THAT I GOT TO WATCH MY BABY'S HEART BEAT!!), movement is good, and size is just what you would expect for 8 weeks. In short, she said the baby looks perfect so far!

Oh. My. God! Elation doesn't even begin to cover it.

Week 8

Tired. That's the word. Very, very tired. All the time. Can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. But, I have to say, other than tired (oh, and sore boobs), my symptoms are very mild, for which I'm grateful.

Tomorrow (Tuesday the 28th) I go for my first ultrasound. How exciting! This will confirm that there is (or is not) a baby in there. We should be able to hear the heartbeat and measure how big he or she is so far. Wich me luck! I will post when I have more information, one way or another.

Week 7, and First Doctor Appointment

Yesterday I went for my first OB appointment. It wasn't much of anything as I'm not far enough along for an ultrasound yet. They did however do a pregnancy test and confirmed my own tests. As if my symptoms weren't enough! I got some good information, and will go back on Feb. 28 for my first ultrasound. Exciting! That will confirm the pregnancy, because as of right now, there's a possibility that it's not a viable pregnancy (meaning ectopic or blighted ovum). We will see.

Meanwhile, my 7th week starts tomorrow, and I'm feeling the symptoms pretty strongly. Timing has switched, and now nausea hits earlier in the morning and can last all day. Today, the morning sickness was strong, then I came home and took a nap, and now, I feel fine. Guess I should be getting used to not having a schedule anymore... it's only going to get less structured from here!

Week 6

I hit 6 weeks yesterday, halfway through the first trimester. The day was marked by continuos nausea, but again, that's okay! I haven't been ill in the morning, so my symptoms seem more like "afternoon to evening sickness" rather than morning sickness. Which is good. I would rather feel good and be able to get aout of bed, and go back to bed early, than the opposite. I'm sure hormones are raging so who knows how these things will change.

Firsts

Today was my first day of real nausea. Again, not excrutiating, but pretty constant. It started about mid-morning and lasted all day. Although, the salad with green, red and yellow peppers I had for lunch made me feel better. Bell peppers never tasted so good! Amazing the changes that go on in the body. My sense of smell (which has always been acute) is now off the chart. Thankfully, smells are not making me sick. I hope it stays that way!

Into Week 5

I am feeling pretty good. My symptoms are fluctuating, but on the whole, are very mild. I rather like having them. Means I'm not dreaming this up. Today in particular, I'm pretty tired, and my ankles are really swollen end of day. So attractive. I've been walking a lot, as I was at the parks Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and today. Some low-grade nausea this evening, but nothing bad. Keeping positive and excited for this adventure!

Amazing News

I know my blog is not getting a lot of visitors these days, and I'm kind of counting on that. Because I want to document what's going on with me, but not broadcast it wide. I've only told a few of my closest friends and family but...

I'm pregnant!

I'm only 4-1/2 weeks at the moment, and I haven't even been to the doctor yet. But I've got some symptoms already, which I understand is a good sign. As you can imagine, I'm very excited!

I've wanted this for a long time, so I want to document every little thing. Yesterday, 1/31/12, is when I took the tests. I was flabbergasted to say the least. The first test I took at about 4:55am, and I held the stick wrong. (Should have re-read the directions.) But yet, verdict was preggers. So I tried to go back to sleep, couldn't sleep, so tried a second test, this time, reading the directions first. Same verdict as test 1. Pretty conclusive.

I started getting heartburn on Sunday the 29th, and since then have had low-grade nausea and heartburn, not to mention the burps. Very attractive! But pretty normal from what I've read. I am quite tired, but that's to be expected too. I am about to head outside for a walk, because more than anything, I want to keep active during the pregnancy (and beyond, of course).

More updates as they come. I know it's really early and I'm only 4 weeks into 40, but I am keeping positive and thinking very healthy thoughts.
